What will you get after combining love and determination of a small film crew from Ireland? A web series that begins its journey as part of RTE Storyland and hits the red carpet of the renowned Lovie Awards in London to win the Music & Entertainment and The People’s Choice Awards.
Created in 2012, ‘Cuckoo’ tells a story of rebellious red-headed Niamh Keegan who suspects her parents might have kidnapped her as a child. She embarks on a quest to discover her true identity. The series enchants with beautiful cinematography, clever visual transitions and witty dialogues. Th cast, including Denise McCormack (‘Love/Hate’), Brian Fortune (‘Game of Thrones’) and Jeff Doyle (‘Jack & Ralph Plan A Murder’) delivers a great drama packed with suspense and thrill. It was directed by former MTV presenter Danann Breathnach and produced by Marie Caffrey of Zanzibar Films. The nerve-gripping plot comes along with a quirky music streak thanks to such bands as Le Galaxy, The Hot Sprockets and Jemson Green. The series also received support from local businesses and radio stations including Dublin’s Sunshine 106.8, Dublin Cit FM, Locks Brasserie and Swopshop in Temple Bar.
This four-part production, started as a RTE Storyland entree, is the only picture in the history of the competition that has been completed after being eliminated. It was possible thanks to financial support of fans who contributed during a fundraising event and crowd-funding campaign last year.
It is not the first time the series has received recognition. Early this year it was nominated to the Webby Awards, fighting against The Walking Dead and Tom Hanks’ animation project Electric City. It also appeared at the Melbourne WebFest and Marseille Web Fest.
To support the series, vote here for it in the Lovie Awards’ People’s Choice section until the 10th of October.
